Product Description
Laminate countertops are built from a high-pressure laminate sheet bonded to a plywood or MDF substrate. The surface is durable for daily use and resistant to most household stains, but two cautions apply: the seam between the laminate and the underlying substrate is where damage occurs, and standing water on the seam or near the sink can cause the substrate to swell. Proper edge treatment and a quality sink install solve most of this.
Available in postformed (rounded edges, integral backsplash) or flat-laid (custom edge treatments) configurations. Pairs well with flat-panel or Shaker cabinets in a budget-conscious renovation.
